Little Travel Stories: Plaza de Santa Caterina, Barcelona

Plaza de Santa Caterina, Barcelona, November 2015, afternoon facebook post

Café Catalina, Plaza de Santa Caterina, Barcelona. Around me the plaza is alive, full of life, beauty everywhere. Locals taking their dogs for afternoon walks, happy people on bicycles, pink cheeks and smooth skin -smiling. Their joy so evident and contagious. Handsome policeman run by, chasing a crafty pickpocket, looking like they're enjoying the chase and would probably let him go anyway. I look around at all the places he could hide, ducking into a small alleyway and for some reason I'm hoping he gets away... I imagine his heart beating loudly in his hiding place :). All part of this gorgeous little movie taking place before my eyes. I'm then recalling the stories shared with me last night in a pizza bar in Born, the labyrinth quarter of the old city, by an argentine friend of a friend who has been living here nearly 30 years, after travelling the great overland route from Australia through Asia, Afghanistan, Turkey, Bulgaria and eventually here. The adventures, Angels and beauty he saw along the way. And I'd pay for a good story. This one worth millions. Then I think of a friend who loves in a small country town in Australia, who tells the most beautiful stories of the people and landscape in that place. The beauty that exists everywhere and the people who notice it and tell me of it. The thing is in this moment I don't have any paper, just a pen, and I NEED to get this out ... So here's a bit of the story... I'm going to find a notebook.. xxx
